Built around the iconic waterfalls from which the city derives its name, Niagara Falls was once a vibrant community built around the energy industry. As the greater Buffalo area went into decline following its golden age, Niagara Falls lost a good portion of its population as well; today, the area makes the majority of its income around the tourism industry. In more recent years, as the greater Buffalo area has begun to build itself back, Niagara Falls has seen an increase in young professionals moving to the area. A significant portion of existing Niagara Falls residents have grown up here; in fact, many families have been here for generations.
